We are currently running SQL Server 2000 on a Old Compaq Proliant Single Proc P3 900 Mhz Processor with 512MB RAM. We have 3x 18GB 10K SCSI drives in a RAID 5 array. We have a total of 20 employees and we are looking to upgrade our SQL Server to 2005 and also looking to get new hardware.
My question is for a company our size will the SCSI drives make a huge difference over SATA drives in a RAID 5 array?

In my old company I had a similar issue... it really comes down to (well it did for me) what your IT department is comfortable using (for mine SATA was much easier to understand and use without calling in the consultants, a common problem in a small company) and also utilisation of the SQL databases. Just how hard are you hitting this server? I would consider doing some performance monitoring on the disks to help you answer this question... because if it's not being hit hard then you will see no real difference between SATA and SCSI.
