Visual Studio, is it required

  • Software : SQL Server 2000, Visual Studio.Net 2003, Reporting Services for SQL 2000 (SP3a)

I know I can access the report (rdl) building add in via Visual studio.net 2003.

Question : Can I build reports with "reporting services" without VS.net 2003 ?

( ie install SQL server 2000 with reporting services, and thats it.)

  • yes, you should be able to. as long as you can do the reports properly, because thet are based on xml.

open the reports in notepad or any text editor and see if you will like typing all that code by yourself.

and then you can use the the report server manager to import them. in this worl of fast money based on instant reports i don't think your boss will allow you to type the code in notepad 😉

Everything you can imagine is real.
