So I'm boxing up some things the other day, Monday the 16th in fact and I get a call. It's 5 days from my closing on the new house and 7 days from the movers coming to get boxes. Some of which are still empty and need various household junk dropped into them (like toys!) So as if it weren't enough that I'm moving my house, this is Viawest, the ISP that hosts the SQLServerCentral.com systems. They gave us a good deal and have been a great company to host with in the Rocky Mountain area (shamless plug since I like these folks).
My account rep says that the company next to us asked if we would move our servers to a new cabinet. Apparently they have 2 or 3 cabinets and need to expand and we're in the way. They could work around it and it isn't a demand, but it would be easier for them. Since I only have about 7 boxes, it isn't a huge deal, but it is time and effort since I have a Fri night - Sun am window. So I negotiated a nice price for the effort.
Now one of the interesting things about negotiation I've learned (and I'm not great at it), is that you don't want to make the first offer if you don't know what the value is. You can easily come in too low and leave money on the table. I don't mind fair deals, but I don't want to leave too much money around if I can avoid it. Fortunately they offered $1000 when I was thinking $600, so things worked out well.
I'm thinking Sat morning the 28th, very early, we'll have an hour or two of downtime while the boxes move. Supposedly the IPs will stay the same, just a physical move to a new cabinet. 7 servers, various wires, etc. If all goes well this will be
Now if Andy and Brian will just let me keep some of the money
