I can''t get the copy database wizard to work

  • I simply want to create a replica of a database.  For example:  copy pubs to a new database called myPubs.  I used the copy database wizard in Management Studio however it always failed with no further information than last step 1 failed.

Is there another way I can simplye make a copy of a database in SQL Server 2005?  Thanks

  • It will log message in Event Log (or you can specify text file during wizard) This will help you drill down the issue while using Copy database wizard.

    Do you have SSIS installed??

  • I get the same, it's a nightmare. I definately have SSIS installed.

    I have tried:

    • Running the management studio on the server (incase of licensing issues).
    • Logging in via SQL Server Authentication.
    • Logging in via Windows Authentication.

I am using the object copy method as the database I am copying is not to be taken down.

It seems that the upgrade from 2000 to 2005 has been a massive step backwards as something as simple as this is proving impossible to do! It really is a massive disappointment so far.

Does anyone have any insights as to why this is happening?
