Hi all,
Trying to install SQL Server 2005 Developer edition on my laptop - have XP Pro SP2, on a Dell Latitude 1.6GHz - all seems within the hardware specs, but the installation stops and tells me I fail the minimum hardware requirements, but not why. I've researched this and found some references to Windows SBS, but I'm on XP. Anyone seen this or have any ideas?
Many thanks
Nick

Most commonly people don't realize they don't have enough hard drive space. I would start there however here are the system reqs for 2K5 Dev

Thanks, but I went through that yesterday and have freed up about 25 GB of disk. Prior to that it was not as much, but still measured in GB rather than MB. The requirements say around 1 GB if you add them all up.
Keep em coming

Did you look at the log file generated during the install process and stored in temp? You might be able to work up from there to figure out it's issue.

I didn't find any log files in temp - the logs in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files don't reveal anything obvious. The summary.txt file says "The current system does not meet minimum hardware requirements for this SQL Server release. For detailed hardware requirements, see the readme file or SQL Server Books Online."
The most useful file looks to be the SQLSetup0001_SWI-XNCARRING_SCC.log file, but I can see no obvious errors in there.
Still looking ...

It usually gives that message because you don't have enough available memory at the time of install. Ignore the message, if you can, and run the install.
From BOL:
3SCC will warn the user but will not block Setup if the minimum or recommended RAM check is not met. Memory requirements are for this release only, and do not reflect additional memory requirements of the operating system. SCC verifies the memory available when Setup starts.

I have found the same problem also, especially to install reporting services always prompt the blue screen with the RAM 512 MB. After added RAM become 1GB, life become much easier than before... Try to upgrade your RAM coz this version is really greedy with the memory.

Finally got round this. It turned out that what was blocking it was the failure of the Native Client to install, not the hardware warning. This part was failing because it had previously been installed from a network share that was no longer available. Once I removed it, the Native Client installed OK, and the database server went on and installed as well. Phew! Thanks for the suggestions, people.

Nick,
I'm experiencing the exact same issue. You mentioned that once you removed it, the install worked fine. Do you remember what it was that you removed?
I just un-installed SQL 2005 due to issues with SSIS and I'm trying to re-install and it is killing. I have 4 gig of memory on this laptop, so I know that isn't the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff
