URGENT: Export to Excel on Mac using Reporting Services

  • OS: Mac 10.4 (Tiger), Browser: IE, Excel: MS Office 2004 and Office X

Report was rendered to Excel through Reporting Services.

I cannot open the Excel file on a Mac. I have tried Office 2004 and Office X. Both are capable of opening Excel 97 (PC) through Excel version 2004 (Mac). If I download the Reporting Services Excel file on the Mac and then move it toa PC, I can open the Excel file. I then saved the file in excel and moved it back to the mac and it opens.

I can move the excel file to a PC and open it; save it and then move the newly saved file to the mac and it

    opens.

    Any idea? Thanks!

  • Have you applied SP1 & SP2 to Reporting Services? If not then the report is not being exported to native Excel format. Apply the service packs and try again.

If you have already applied the services packs then you'll probably need to raise this issue with Microsoft Support.

  • Thx for ur reply, Phill!

We have SP2 on our server for Reporting Services. I have compared the binary header file of the one created on Mac and the binary header file of a PC format, they are totally different.

Also, the report will be exported in multiple worksheets. It looks like the report renderer was not generating the correct format on a Mac.
