I have just purchased visual studio 2005 standard edition and I am trying to work through the Microsoft Press ADO.NET 2.0 Step by STep. It requires SQL2005 Express edition to be installed and running in order to comlete the exercises. I downloaded SQL Expess and installed it but the configuration manager reports that it is not running. I try to manually start it and get the message: (The request failed or the service did not resond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details.) The configuration manager shows SQL Server (SQLExpress) stopped with a start mode of automatic, (MSSQL Server) running with a start mode of automatic, and SQL Server Browser running with a start mode of automatic. I have uninstalled and reinstalled SQLExpress 4 or 5 times with no change. I really need some help with this. Thanks in advance, Roger

I found 5 or 6 logfiles in the folder listed below. I pasted the latest log after the path.
Thanks, Roger
