I have a SQL 2005 database that is set up with log shipping to a disaster recovery server. Right now the destination database is in a Stand By / Read Only state. Is there a way I can take a full backup of this database without restoring with recovery? I know you're able to take a database snapshot with 2005, but I'm not sure if that would be sufficient as a backup strategy. Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks in advance!

I know thats not possible in sql 2000 but not sure in sql 2005
Backups are always taken from the primary db. you should take the db backup, for that day, and all the logs for that day and move them off to a safe place.

We already take daily backups from the primary, but our disaster recovery site is 700 miles away. I'm just looking for an extra layer of redundancy just in case the destination database goes corrupt when our home office is obliterated by a meteor and we have to fail over to the hotsite.
