I have experience using SQL Server 2000 but not 2005. We have it, but have not installed it yet. I also have NO experience with Reporting Services. I've looked for more information about my questions, but I don't seem to be able to find a straight answer.
If I install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, does it have Reporting Services with it or do I need to purchase it seperately? If so, is it installed on the Server or is it a client software tool?
Also, I have Visual Studio 2005 Professional and I've read that it has reporting services built into it for SQL, but I only see Crystal Reports. Am I missing something.
I just need a good...but general explanation as to what Reporting Services is, how it works, and how it integrates into Visual Studio 2005. Anyone who has used all three together will probably be able to answer my questions.

In the Standard Edition, Reporting Services is an option to install. It comes with SQL Server right on the same disc. The same software is used for the client and the server depending on what type of install you do.
To my understading, VS 2005 has the Report Designer that can be used to create reports for Reporting Services. It's basically a snap in so when you choose NEW you have an option of doing a report. There is also a snap in that can be installed on VS 2003 when you do Reporting Services for SQL Server 2000.
Overall, you will have about the same functionality in Reporting Services as you would Crystal Reports. Being a DBA, I find RS easier to use than Crystal.
