Can I create multiple MSDE DBs to counteract the 2gb limit?

Can I create 1.5 or 2gb slices of my database, put them all on one system, and query the appropriate DB using a filter? It seems like it would work.
Same thing if I had multiple access DB files on a computer, right?
Basically, my group wants to go around IT and therefore SQL EE. I think we can do that by splitting our 25g-50g need into multiple files/db instances.
Doable?
