Estimate the time to restore database

  • Can anyone tell me a technique to estimate the time to restore database??

    Thanks in advance

  • How long did the backup take?

  • To add to what SQLBill says, it's been my experience that--all else being equal--restores take longer than backups, ranging maybe from 10% to 25% longer. (Hard drive space has to be allocated, and other fussy management stuff.)

  • Backup takes about 32 minutes

  • Restore should take under 1 hour....I would guesstimate that it would be about 40-45 minutes.

  • Just a couple of other points to factor in ... did you perform the database backup to disk or directly to tape ? Will the restore be from disk or directly from tape ? Also, the time of day and present user/server load may also add some time as well.
