C/Odbc

  • Well I went all over the forums to think of the best place to put this but nothing seemed to fit.  this is really for 2005 SQL anyway since I am in the middle of upgrading.

Currently we run Navision Software which is a pain because it resides in C base.  Each Day I load like 50 tables from Navision to SQL Server.  when I used to use c/odbc driver straight to SQL Server, one 30 row table would take around 20 minutes.  then I got an idea which seemed to work.  I opened up MS access and linked all of the Navision tables using the same C/odbc, Then I used Access as a middle teir before bringing it to SQL.  Then I was able to do all kinds of things that we could not do before.  How this worked is MS ACCESS renamed the tables and did a better job at seeing the data.  Well now we are at 50 tables and it is getting more complex as I am always trying to shave time.  Currently it takes around 30 minutes.  this is still great compared to the way it used to be, but I want to know if anyone out there does the same thing and how they import the data.  If there is not let it be known Navision is a Cruel program that is very interesting but a pain to work with as a Datawarehousing DBA.

  • Hi,

one solution would be to go with the navision sql option...

We have Navision running on SQL Server 2000 with 150 users, the database currently has 50 GB...
