I downloaded this CTP (ISO image) from MSDN, burned it to a CD, and proceeded to install it on a Win2k03 test box. Everything worked until --- BEEP BEEP -- "Please insert Disc 2". I don't have a disc 2 and certain features such as SQLXML4 and "SQL Setup Support Files" have yet to be installed. Any idea what is going on here?
TIA,
Bill

Have you tried copying the files from CD to a folder like: C:\sqldev?
I used the same MSDN file but ran it successfully from the hard drive. I haven't been able to get the VSTS to work from DVD-so I'm skeptical of the setup installers:>

There is a tools and a servers CD. I also noticed on the MSDN subscriber downloads that they weren't really named that well (Server = Disc 1, Tools = Disc 2).

Brenda --- correct !
That was my problem. I noticed that when the "SQL Server Setup" disk autoran "Disc 1 or 2" appeared in faint text in the upper left-hand corner of the display. So, where was disk 2 I wondered? It has to be, and it was, the Sql server "Tools" CD. After getting that figured out the install was a breeze.

Thanks for the tip on using the Tools for Disc 2. That worked great but now I can't get the management tools to install. The installation fails with the following message:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. "
When I checked the Tools log file at the point of failure I found the following after this message:
Action SqlWbSetup.5F46584E_060D_4BCB_ADEE_BD15A7BFCC2A, location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\SqlWb.exe, command: /setup
Apparently the workbench setup is failing but there is no indication about why or what to do about it. I have tried removing the entire installation using the sqlbuw.exe program to make sure everything was successfully removed and then re-installed but with the same result.
I've been searching msdn and sql support sites to find out what to do but can't seem to find anything specific to this problem. My current configuration is:
XP Pro SP2
VS 2005 RC1
SQL 2005 CTP Sept
Does anyone here have a solution?
Thanks!
