Shrink DB syntax

Hello friends!!!
I have Sql server 2000 as data base
Can any body tell me about shrink DB and also can i truncate .mdf file aslo
with this syntax....
EXEC sp_dboption @DB, 'trunc. log on chkpt.', TRUE/FALSE
Is there any condition that i have to use this for master database only???
like that......plase explain me in detail and please can any body know detail syntax of shrink
