Hi everyone,
In EM, the startup service account options are grayed out. Why is that? Thanks for your help.

Are you a member of the SQL Server "System Administrators" role ?

It means you don't have enough rights to change this. Also I guess you are not one of the server local administrator group member and you don't have sa rights. If it's not true let us to know

Hi everyone,
I am a system admin on that database server and I have the same permissions as I do on the other server. I am also a member of the local admin group (in computer management, right?). On the second computer, I am a sys admin and not a member of the local admin group, but I am able to change the startup service account. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
So you see these grayed options on the server where you are not local admin... In this case it should be so. If you want to change these options you must be one of the local admin. I tested it on my servers

Hi Vidas,
I just tried it again on my server and it is not doing it. I added myself to the local admin group and reconnected to my server through em, but it is still grayed out. Does it take time for the local admin to take effect? Does it need a reboot?

Hi,
Who is connecting? Please check your EM server registration properties to make sure the account you just added to local admins is connecting, not some other login.
Then log off from your box, log in again. Everything depends on your particular logon / connection story. But logging off and back again usually helps.

Agreed with Yelena. Your both SQL server services and sqlserveragents must run under the same local admin account (ex. Adm) which you added previously. Then as Adm you can connect through EM to both servers and you'll see these options not in gray
