MS SQL Server 7.0 connect to Remote Oracle 8i Problems

  • Hi,

    case 1

I am using P4 machine with Win2k SP4, MSSQL 7.0 SP4,MDAC2.7 SP1. Now, I would like to connect to Oralce8i thur MSSQL Server Enterprise Manager, however, after I install OLE DB 9.0.1.0.1 the connection wasnt sucess on Enterprise Manager. I already check on the registy and oraoledb*.dll.

What is /are causing the connection problems, error message from Enterprise Manager "Error 7399: OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' reported an error"? -- Microsoft problem

and I also hit on OraOLEDB.ORACLE reported error message. -- Oracle problem

    case 2

By the way, when I use P3 WinNT SP6, MSSSQL 7.0 SP4 and install the necessary drivers for oracle OLE DB which is not problem connecting to remote 8i DB.  For the one is fairly straight forward though.

    Questions

How to fix the connection problems with the Win2k SP4, MSSQL 7.0 SP4,MDAC2.7 SP1 to oracle 8i problem ?  CASE 1

Does this the matter of the OS version problems or the MSSQL problems or any authorication of missing under Win2k such as DTS, MDAC or whatsoever ?

    Thanks in advance !

  • The error message is deceiving.  I've gotten the same one when trying to create a linked server to Oracle 7 / 8i.  The problem ended up being the Oracle alias (TNS service name).  You set this up using the NETCONFIG utility.  Good luck.
