Yukon

  • I'm going to be starting my MCDBA certification process soon, but I'm wondering if I should wait for the Yukon certification? Should I just go ahead and start the process with the Windows 2000 stuff and then wait for the Yukon exams?

I've never done any certifications before so this is all new to me 🙂

BTW, thank you to those who recommended companies in my 'Southeast' thread.

  • Don't wait on Yukon. It looks likely it's going to slip into 2004:

  • Go ahead and take the SQL Server 2000 tests, but wait until Microsoft adds the Windows 2003 Server test to the MCDBA requirements. I would not take the Windows 2000 Server test (70-215) if I was just starting out because the Windows 2003 Server test (70-290) has been released and is required for the MCSE on Windows 2003 certification.

So your test order might look like this:

    70-228 SQL Server Administration

    70-229 SQL Server Design

    ??? Elective

70-290 Windows 2003 Server (after it is added to the MCDBA requirements)

Of course it is also possible Microsoft will decide to not add the 70-290 exam to the MCDBA requirements until Yukon is released which would make a clean separation between the new MCDBA's on Win2K3 & Yukon versus the MCDBA's on Win2K and SQL2K. The MCDBA requirements page states that they WILL integrate the Win2K3 exam into the SQL2K certification, but that page is nine months old:
