Revert back to old forum software

  • Is it possible to revert back to the old forum software? I have tried to be patient and use this new forum software while the "bugs" are worked out, but it is so much worse than the original forums. At what point can this software be dumped and the old software restored? Please don't make me suffer any more...

  • While we're not really looking at doing that for a number of reasons, can you list the issues with the new forums? It's a big change for me as well, but it doesn't seem unusable.

  • Hard for us to turn back, but we're committed to fixing whatever is broken. For us it's not just the forums but the entire site integration.

  • Language barrier:

Ich muss jetzt mal eine Lanze für die neue Forumsoftware brechen

I like the new forum. Definitely something to get used to, but with a little tweaking and tuning, this was the right way to go.

  • I wish that you would display the first few lines of the message in the Community Update email as you did in the past.  This would better enable me to determine which discussions to look at.

  • Please don't go back to the old forum style!

  • Is there any particular reson that cookies are required? If I block cookies, the site spins for a few minutes before finally erroring out. It's not a huge issue, but it would be nice if I either got a nice error message or if it errored out sooner, rather than keep trying to give me a cookie over and over and over and over and over...

  • I like your new .Net version...  keep up the good work!

  • Cookies were required with the old software and we are running in a dual ASP.NET / classic ASP environment now.

We might be able to eliminate them in the future, but they do provide some benfits in reducing some round trips to the server.

We have altered the Active Topics page so it uses your login time from the DB instead of a cookie, so you are not limited to one computer to get the active topics.

  • Adding a note to the task list about the cookie, will try to get it to stop trying sooner for now.

  • When click on the print this topic, it opens a new page and a print dialog box shows. Would it be possible to remove the print dialog box and have a print button on a page instead. ( in most of the cases I don't print, rather I save the file in various formats).

    Thanks

  • Added to the enhancement list. Off hand dont see this as being a bad change.

  • Or would it be possible to add an extra button-"Save as Text" (without printing option) - if remove Print Dialog is not the case here.

    Thanks

  • Personally, I like the old forum software as well, but I can understand that you've made a commitment to running the site on this new version.

The major things I don't like about the new version is:

    1. Font of forums.  The font is really small and I find it annoying to read large posts.

    2. The first few lines of posts aren't included in the Community Updates anymore, as mentioned higher up in this forum.

    3.  The search functionality really sucks. I used to be able to find lots of things with the old search, now I'm lucky if I get any results returned.

    4.  I can't see any of my old postings.

  • As for 4:

Go to My Account -> My Recent Posts. I think almost all of your posts are listed there. Unfortunately I am only able to see the first page, next or last page gives me an error.
