In SQL Server 7.0, when trying to restore from a backup that was created in ArcServe. I get the message listed above even when the tape is inserted into the drive. I know the tape works, and so does the drive. Has anyone seen such a message before? If so, any possible remedies?

I have never used Arcserver but can you try restoring the backup file to the filesystem and then try to restore ?

Try to restore the database backup file into local drive and then restore the database using SQL Server statement "retsore" to restore the database.

We've managed to expand the backup file within ArcServe, but I believe it's just a group of all the files... and not in a "backup" format that can be read by SQL 7.0. (Sorry for my novice approach to this, I am new to this territory, any help would be appreciated)
Thanks,

Looks like you didn't install SQL agent from ArcServe. Just backup and restore only database files is not enough. |

Hmm, I've been trying to restore using the GUI option of TOOLS / Restore Database. The issue at hand here is that we have a backup of our 2002-2001 IDEAS information on SQL. We want the current 2004-2003 database to remain functional. We want our backup of the old data to dump into a "test" database. Can someone help out this newbie and maybe suggest a way to get the data from the tapes onto the test database?
I will need commands for the prompt, because I think this might help me in avoiding the "Device error" I've been seeing.
Thank you in advance,

That way you can restore database that was backed up using the MS software (Tools>>backup ...). If you have an old tape from ArcServe tape drive to be able to restore on a test server you have to install ArcServe SQL agent on a test server, and after that will be able to restore using ArcServe procedure. |
