Career path for more than jr less than sr DBAs

Though the subject looks like it might be off-topic, I'll try to keep it on topic. Basically, my experience puts me right inbetween those 2 titles, though my past jobs have been all over the place (DBA, Dev, Web Design, Software Engineer).
I'm trying to find the right track to building a career for myself, and I'm sure there are others out there like me.
I'm wondering what the best strategy is for a Developer/jr.DBA if they are trying to go the path of full DBA, and no longer jump from job to job, but to truly build a career, and do something mentally stimulating at the same time.

I second your interest. I consider myself to be in much the same boat...a wearer of many hats who would like to focus on a career path as a DBA.
I don't have any definite answers from research, but I've come up with the following ideas:
Look for new positions as a full-time DBA that don't necessarily specify Jr/Sr, but that don't ask for experience and skills that you don't have.
Put your career objectives on your resume. Mention them when you interview, not as requirements, but more as "hoping to find"'s.
Get an MCDBA...subtle, right?

I have the same struggle. I am always a database developer plus doing many other things. I know both Oracle and SQL Server (of course SQL Server is much easier to use and learn.) There is a SQL Server DBA position opening up in my company (Currently I am a contractor working for that company). I am thinking whether I should apply. But I feel once you become a DBA, you can never go back to development. It also looks liked the career of a DBA is so limited especially SQL Server DBA. When the next version of SQL Server comes out, it is so easy to use that it practically does not need a DBA!! (That's is the rumor I heard.)
