Installation problem

  • I have to install SQL 7.0 Standard Edition on a NT 2K sp3 box w/hotfixes

I'm getting the following error on install

    Fatal Error

Execution cannot continue as the language dependent resource file z:\x86\resources\1033\SQLSVC.RLL could not be loaded.

For what it's worth after hitting the OK, the install continues to go on its merry way, as if nothing is wrong. I just don;t trust Fatal Errors.

As usual, any help or insight into this is greatly appreciative.

    best regards,

  • How many times have you tried this install and gotten the error? Have you tried cleaning the disk? I had a problem on one install and believe it or not, cleaning the disk solved the problem. Also, is this an original disk or a copy? If it's a copy, a file could have been mis-copied.

  • Thanks for replying Bill,

I have tried it several time on two different boxes, stage and prod, I have also tried using two different copies of the install software, the original standard edition release and a MSDN copy. Both gave identical results. I have a feeling its a Win2K sevice pack issue.

  • Have you 'explored' the disk to see if that file is on the install disk? Have you looked on the server to see if that path and/or file exists? If the file exists, check the size of the file and compare it to the size of the original.

  • Ok here are the steps that corrected my problem

    1. Disable IISAdmin, INTEL NMS, and TSMSched.

    2. Driver signing is a new feature for Win2K. It can be accessed by right clicking on “My Computer” and selecting Properties. Select the Hardware tab. Click the Driver Signing button to change. This was set to warn I changed it to ignore.

    3 Regedit

    In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Non-Driver Signing\Policy=

***anything other than 0 changes non-driver signing policy to Warn

Make sure there is nothing but zeros here.

    4 Uninstalled SQL Server 7.0

    5 reboot

    6 Installed SQL Server 7.0 - review SQLSTP.log

    7 reboot

    8 Install SP4

    9 reboot

10 enable all the services that were disabled

11 reset the Driver Signing button to warn

    12 reset the registry change

    13 reboot

    14 Review install event logs

Thanks to the boys at Microsoft, especially Larry Che

  • Ok, now jump and down, when the planets are in alignment while chanting "Ohm mane padme hum"! You should be ashamed as that answer was SO obvious! Just kidding, love these esoteric fixes that you get from MSFT some times.

  • Yes, but they don't look nearly as stylish when "they do a hop to the left"! LMAO OK I'm done. Sorry for dragging your thread down into my corny sense of humour, would not have done it if you had not found your answer.
