TempDB - Alternatives

  • OK, I know I cannot block anyones use of TempDB.

Given that anyone can launch a denial of service attack by filling up TempDB does anyone know if YUKON does anything to address this?

Ideally what is needed are user TempDBs in addition to the normal TempDD. That way the worst any single user could do would be to crash their own session.

  • Havent heard anything - then again, I don't have any inside scoop!

Not sure personal tempdb's would work if actually implemented as db's, imagine a box with 4000 concurrent users!

It would be nice to have something similar to NT disk quota's maybe, and/or a way to limit how much CPU/memory a single process could use. Or to just prevent explicit use of tempdb, only allow it from within procs or by SQL itself.
