I have just discovered that our enterprise backup solution does not see and therefore backup default db instances when named instances exist on the same server.
The easiest way around this would appear to be to rename the instance. Is this possible?
I have them looking at whether we can use an alias to much the same effect, but wondered whether anyone knew how to perform a rename without re-installation?
