I have problem where there the agent keeps stopping, but it still shows as running when you look at services in control panel. this is causing jobs to fail regularly I have looked everywhere I can think to find more info eg event viewer to no avail.
we are running sql2000 sp2 on a w2k sp2
any help appreciated

Does the sql agent log file give any more details? (Right click on the sql agent and choose 'display error log')

there are several error messages about email user that could not be notified when the job completed could this stop the service

Did you get a stack dump that shows an execution of xp_sendmail in it? If so, you have hit a bug in SQL Server 2000 service pack 2 SQLMAP70.dll. Replace it with the version from service pack 1 and you will be fine.

If you would, post the stack dump, as mentioned by rwims. It may be helpful to others as well who run across the same issue.
