All,
I need help getting the database mail service stabilized in my prod environment. Initially when I start database mail it will que it and if I try again right after it will throw an error that it could not que the message when it was able to just 1 second before. I start mail services and it stops almost immediately. When I check the status after mail is started it shows in the status column "Receives Occurring" then goes to "Inactive" status.
Need help please....:)
Thanks in advance,
-David

Can you please post for us the contents of the database mail logs, and any relevant entries in the error log, and window system and application logs?

I'm attaching the DB Mail log as (db_mail.txt.zip) as requested and also want to add that I'm seeing this message below in the SQL logs over and over again almost every second. I tested an email notification from a successful rebuild index SQL Agent job and that seemed to work so I'm not sure why some jobs will deliver email and some won't and why the DB Mail service keeps starting and stopping.
The activated proc "[dbo.sysmail.activate."running on queue "msdb.dbo.ExternalMailQue." output the following: The service que "ExternalMailQue is currently disabled"
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 🙂

Looks like this is your problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941105

NJ-DBA,
The kb article you referenced is exactly the one I came across early this morning as well. So this actually re-enforces the direction I was going in with trying to resolve the issue I posted a thread about. Now I'm just waiting for approval to apply the hotfix from our Network Engineer.
Thanks for your input, it's greatly appreciated!

Please do post whether the hotfix resolves the problem or not... I've not seen this particular problem before so it's interesting.

I have got the same issue on one of our servers. Please post if the hotfix actually does the trick. I do not see any reference to the DLL errors mentioned in the KB "Failed to load FileName.dll" however. So I am curious if this is the right issue. I had another similar issue on a server (which was a domain controller as well) and ended up having to reinstall MS SQL Server to get it to finally work. I had opened a case with Microsoft and all. I think one of their solutions was to replace a DLL. Cannot remember which .DLL it was.
