Download and install the trial software I think as a system admin you should start with DBA because datawarehousing is more development than admin. I think Oracle 9i is old because it is like SQL Server 2000 so you may also install Oracle 11g in your local server. The key is get books and spend time with both products.

  • Thanx Peddie, can u tell me for DBA course from Microsoft how many exams i have to pass and what would be course title..coz i heard that M.C-DBA is discontinued.and if possible could u tell me some god books or any online training site.....

    Thanx in advance..

  • The first two links are for exam 70-432 the MCTS exam and the 70-450 the MCITP with the skills measured use the skilled measured page with the self prep book for each exam. You can find the books on Amazon

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-432&locale=en-us

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-450&locale=en-us

These three links are visual installation guide for SQL Server 2008 and the use of SQL Server Management studio to perform admin tasks. When you install SQL Server it comes with the BOL(books online) in the last two links find the version in your local BOL and study SQL Server Admin with SQL Server management studio. Then you can read the book for exam 70-432 and 70-450 to get details not covered in the BOL. Then you need to buy a good practice test to prep for each exam. Good Luck.

  • I would go with what Gift has suggested, Datawarehouses are more specialised and it would be better for you to start with DBA first and then try datawarehousing if you want to go down that route later on.
