Hi All,
I have SQL Server 2000 installed on my system, but my OS has got corrupted and made us to reinstall the OS.
Before that we have taken the backup of disk then reinstalled the OS and made all the files reside where they are actually before OS installation.
Can we use SQL server by using old installation files or need to reinstall the SQL Server again ?
I have tried to reinstall the SQL server but got it failed.
Please help me in this.
Thanks in advance,
Raghavender Chavva.
Thank You.

If you had to reinstall the OS, you will have to reinstall SQL to the same version and patch level so you can attach your database files if they are still valid on your server.

As mentioned by Chuck you need to have the same build and same edition of Sql Server to attach or restore the system databases. Please refer this link for more info, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264474
Check the summary.txt file for any errors related to installation..
