Client Connection Error to SQL Server 2005

  • I installed SQL server Workgroup 2005 on windows xp SP2 station (that will as "Server")

a workstation can access the server and share files..

but i am failing to connect to my sql db through odbc!!

    I am getting the message:

"SQL Server does not exist ...."

In my SQL Server 2005 I have TCP/IP enabled and I enabled two ips..

one that is my computer IP and the other is 127.0.1.1

I can ping 127.0.1.1 from my workstation but still fail to connect to db

My network setup is on router.

Could be something related to network? or SQL network configuration??

Note that my workstation user/pc name are not added to my Win XP SP2 station acting as sever

    Plz advise

  • Two things to check. That Windows Firewall is allowing traffic to port 1433 and that remote connections for your SQL instance are enabled.
