  • When SSMS starts, by default it will try to connect to the default instance on the local server. Does this happen for you?

If you want to have a list of servers you can choose to connect to, similar to the list shown in SQL Server 2000 EM, you will have to register the servers in SSMS. Registering a server just makes point and click connections easier - you can always type the server name in the connection dialogue to get to any server you can access.

  • Hi ,

    Thx for reply.

Can you tell me is SSMS is a service in the windows services.

See in general as i did in 32 versions. After installation i can see my local instances which i created.

But in 64bit versions i can see the same instance in the network servers not in the local servers.

Will there be any different in 64 bit versions. if so.

    Please let me know.

What steps i have to follow to fix this.

    Thanks and Regards

  • SSMS is SQL Server Management Studio. I have not noticed any changes in the way is works between 32-bit and 64-bit.

  • Hello ,

I am facing the same problem during installation of sqlserver 2005 x64..i cant see the local server which i installed in a normal way..i can see the service running in the services.msc and also in sql server configuration manager..but am not able to see it in managment studio.I saw tools are sitting on Programfiles(x86) and database files in Programfiles. Is this is the reason for management studio not taking the local servers when we browse from SSMS.
