Hello,
I have 2000 on my box, I also installed 2k5 management console so I can talk to other 2k5 servers from my machine.
I am wondering if the following tasks are possible:
1. Have my 2000 EM talk to other DBs on 2k5 server, if yes, how? (I failed on some, but I heard it is possible with some special configuation)
2. Installed an 2k5 instance on my box, without upgrading the existing 2000 server. If yes, how? I already have some 2k5 components installed, I can see there are 2 installed instances: SQL Server(version 8.00.761, I believe it's SQL2000) and SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS), version 9.2.3042.00
What is SQLEXPRESS? Come with Visual Studio 2005? Should I remove SQLEXPRESS?
Thanks.

Yes you can install 2000 and 2005 on th esmae box. One needs to be a named instance. I would uninstall SQL Express (yes it comes with VS Pro).
I do not know a way to get SQL 2k Em to connect to a 2005 server. You can use Query Analyzer from 2000 to connect to a 2005 server.

Thanks.
I know using QA talking to 2k5 is possible, but I doubt if EM can talk to 2k5.
