differential backup tied to particular server ? (sql 2000)

    I've created two manual jobs , one to do a full backup of a database to one file and then one to take four diffs to another file

    iDB_200771.bak

    iDB_200771_diff.backup

    when I use enterprise manager to restore them on the server the db originates from then fine , no worries , can restore over original db or create a new one with them.

    But when I move them locally I can only restore the full backup, the diff isn't recognized no matter what I do

    Tearing hair out etc

    Did you verify the diff backup file before restoration post the error please.

    hi u can verify the integrity of the backup using restore verifyonly command....
