An attempt was made to send an email when no email session has been established

    Hello Everyone,

    The tittle of this thread is exactly the error message that I try to understand, an error message found in the agent log.

    I have SQL Server 2005 Dev. Edition.

    I configured the Database Mail and test it : it work -> sending me an email.

    I setup an operator, a test job that failed and a notification to be sent to the operator when the jobs fail.

    What could cause this error?

    Did you designate Database Mail as the mail system for SQL Server Agent?

    It is exactly the problem.

    I also had to restart the Agent service.

    No problem.  I just set up Database Mail for the first time  myself and that's what tripped me up so I recognized the problem.

    I have this same error.... How do I designate Database Mail as the mail system for SQL Server Agent?

    Hello Jillk,

    1- Open the SQL Server Agent properties Window

    2- Click on Alert System

    3- Enable mail profile and enter the information for Mail System and Mail Profile

    4- Click on the ok button

    5- Restart the SQL Server Agent
