Hi All,
SS2005 Standard edition supports up to 4 processors, with cost of $6K per processor. We are thinking about utilizing Standard version with 4 procs ( Hyperthreaded!), so I would have 4 physical processors or 8 logical processors. So my question is: can I still use Standard version or I have to move to Enterprise version? And should I pay for 4 procs or for 8 procs?
TIA

I can't answer the first one (but I think standard), but I'm sure you have to pay only for 4 (physical) processors.

almost positive it's per physical CPU socket since if you use multi-core they only charge you per socket

That one I can confirm... It's per physical socket. Even a quad core should cost only one license (I guess it could change on there end however).

Microsoft has pledged to only charge per socket, which is prob why sql2005 costs more! Note that if/when you move to virtualised environments the pricing gets a little more blurred < grin >
btw - why get HT, dual core would be the way to go ?

Thanks guys, Anyone has a supporting link???
Colin, Most likely we will go for dual core, once we fnalize our budget.
