Hi,
I would be extremely grateful if anyone could advise with the following:We have A SQL server 2000 SPK3A which is intermittantly dropping connections, where by sometimes either it will randomly drop a connection to Enterprise Manager and/or ODBC. But it does not drop all the connections just random ones, so for example I might not be able to connect via EM but my colleague maybe able to. As a result I have to reboot the server to enable users connect, the error message in SQL logs is below. People using the application on the SERVER which connects to the SQL database do not experience any problems only people using EM.

2006-03-28 16:03:56.13 server SQL Server terminating because of system shutdown.
This has happened 3 times now and due to the number of external jobs connecting via ODBC, we need to find a solution if possible, any help would be most welcome.....
(Its has been suggested that we apply SP4 to sql server but the application is only supported upto SPK3A, so this is not an option)
Many thanks

What about this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891311/en-us
Searching the MSKB for 17882 gives this:
Looks like a patch is your only option
