Hi All,
Just want to ask for recommendations on where to start (what book to get) on Data Warehousing. I've been using SQL Server for a while but never really got into the DW world and it looks like I have to get into it now ('coz of work), would really appreciate any guidance.
Thanks heaps.

I still use the Datawarehouse Toolkit and Data warehouse Lifecycle Toolkit, both by Kimball et al. Although they're a bit 'old' now, I find that the approaches are still quite valid in many cases. Plus it gives you a technology neutral approach to warehousing, which can be helpful when being courted by ETL, OLAP, DB vendors. Having said that, I wouldn't look outside of SQL2K5 for my next DW project due to the improvements in SSIS (replaces DTS) and AS.

We used Kimball's books recently and were also new to DW. We have been highly praised for our DW design by some very experienced DW people. Kimball is the way to go.
Also, when it comes to hardware, do not skimp on RAM and make sure you have fast disks.
Good luck!

I agree with StevefromOZ. Kimball's books are the way to go, especially since it is independent of any platform. I got my feet wet with these books and built my first DW as well. Kimball is considered the guru of DW. Can't go wrong.

Kimball is terrific... but don't leave out the writings of Bill Inmon. Even though Inmon presents the non-dimensional approach, he still has a lot to say.
Also, check out datawarehouse.com, which keeps the DW subject fresh and updated.
