This is the type of headline that I think is written with an agenda: Google to dump Windows internally due to security concerns. It might be true, and it might even be what the CIO at Google believes, but I can't believe that it's strictly based on security issues.
I've used Windows for years and while I have seen security issues, and I have been concerned at times, I'm not overly worried, and I certainly don't feel it's so insecure that it causes major issues. There are issues with Windows security, but as a subscriber to the Secunia security lists, I see lots of security holes in many products. You can view that however you want, but there are security issues in all software.
Google has said after a major intrusion from hackers through IE6 that they are not planning on giving new hires a choice of Windows for their machines. They'll get *Nix or MacOS as choices. That's fine, but it's a little like saying you are not going to buy a Ford vehicle because of the Pinto design flaws.
Microsoft is no better about making polarizing headlines than any other company, and Google shows here that they aren't necessarily above some petty announcements as well. My guess is that the reality is either company will put pressure on employees to stick with their products, but if someone in Redmond really wants an iPhone, or someone in San Jose wants Win 7, they'll get it.
