hello,
we will be setting up db mirroring.
principal databases are on SQL Server 2005 - Enterprise Edition - SP4
for the mirrored server we will be installing a named instance.
there is a default instance already installed, also SQL Server 2005 - Enterpise Edition - SP4.
i believe that when i install a named instance on this server that i still need to install service packs on that named instance, could somebody please confirm that?
it is mentioned in the documentation that mirroring is not supported on sql 2005 RTM.
thank you

Yes, you will need to install the most recent service pack, or in this case, you would install service pack 4.

a follow up question -- the version and the edition of the principal and mirror server is the same, does the Service Pack also need to be the same?
or could we set up mirroring first (principal is SP4, and mirror will be RTM), then install SP4 on the mirror when a downtime becomes available (there is a default instance on the server that is being used)?
thank you

I would install the service pack before setting up the mirror.
