Hi,
I'm trying to setup Perfmon counters to get Avg. Disk sec/write and Avg.Disk sec/read values to analyze the disk performance.
In Add counters window, While setting up the counters Avg. Disk sec/write and Avg.Disk sec/read:
1. What is the difference between All instances & Select instances from the list?
2. After selecting the Avg. Disk sec/write on left pane, do I need to select _Total & click Add or select each drive letter I want to monitor & then click Add?
Here, I want to get these counter values for all Drives.
I attached the screen shot about what I'm asking!!
Please advice me..
Thanks

You're on the right path.
1. What is the difference between All instances & Select instances from the list?
"All instances" is the same as selecting each entry in the dropdown.
2. After selecting the Avg. Disk sec/write on left pane, do I need to select _Total & click Add or select each drive letter I want to monitor & then click Add?
You can do it that way, or use "All instances".

Hi
If you have multiple instances on the server then All counters refer to the counter value for all the instances together or you can get the counter value for each instance by selecting individual instances.
Avd Disc sec/Write can be measured for individual disks or for all the disks as a whole (_Total)
Thank You,

I
f you have multiple instances on the server then All counters refer to the counter value for all the instances together or you can get the counter value for each instance by selecting individual instances.
But in Add counters window, we have the drop down called select counters from the computer only
and we do not have a option to select the SQL instance name and then select the counters right?
how we select the counters to particularly monitor a SQL instance in case we have multiple instances?
Thanks

Hi
Counters for the SQL Server Instances will be present under the Performance Object drop-down window.
Click on the drop-down box and then scroll until you find the SQL Server Instance object.
Then for that object you have to choose a counter.
Ex: MSSQLSERVER$Instance_Name:Object_Name
Thank You,
