Replication setup

  • Hi All,

We are setting up replication between 2 systems whose IP addresses are like 3.183.x.x and 3.187.x.x but it is failing with different reasons. First one is time out expire. when we checked the distribution job, its in retrying status and when checked the replication history we got the message that login timed out, unable to connect.

Here we think that this is due to firewall issue. Now I have one question here:

which ports do we need to open for resolve this issue ?

FYI: telnet is also not working between these 2 servers.

    Thank You.

    Regards,
    Raghavender Chavva

  • If both of your SQL Servers use default port you will need to open these ports between two servers. I mean that you don't have to open any specific ports for the replication in general, only port used by SQL Server. Depending on your configuration you may need to open extra pots for the snapshot initialization (if distributor is on different server than publisher). You can disable this after snapshot initialization. Correct me if I am wrong.
