I monitor 100 plus servers, a couple K of databases, 70 to 187TB of space depending on who you want to believe using a home grown hodge podge mix of agent jobs and pushed/pulled data from SCOM & VM manager that for the most part I think the company could care less about. I could just as easily use a magic 8 ball to answer every question that they shoot my way on 99.999 percent of the time. I monitor so that the owners of the company & those selling our products can "not care" about the databases the company uses to track money, make payments, order, inventory, pay bonuses and you know make money. I am a ghost in the machine but if the payroll database gets corrupt or the inventory system is slow well then I am the magician who has to pull a rabbit out of his hat to fix it. Some industries & companies value and use their internal data at much lower efficiencies than others. This does not stop me from doing the best I can in monitoring and administrating irregardless of their lack of appreciation or knowledge or use of my collected performance data. I warn about, report on and do my own due dilligence because I enjoy being a good DBA it is what I like to do.

We have had consultants look at the performance data but they are under some form of a non-disclosure agreement. We have determined that it is best to keep it under wraps.
