I am using BIDS 2008, developing a cube in SSAS.
While trying to browse a dimension (by clicking the Browse tab), I get the message "The connection timed out".
Any help will be appreciated.

The deploy and process are successful.
I manage to access the dimension.
I can nevigate to the cube in SSMS, but when I right-clicked the specific dimension, I got the same message: "The connection timed out".
One more thing: It takes more than a minute to open the Microsoft Analysis Server in SSMS.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I am not familiar with those three properties.
How can I reach them? I don't see them when I select the data source.

Having thought about it it's probably not them anyway. You can reach them by double clicking on your datasource in BIDS.
I think you need to look at your SSAS Server properties.
In SSMS right click on the SSAS node and go to properties and tick the box for Show Advanced (All) Properties. Here you can see ExternalCommandTimeout and ExternalConnectionTimeout, defaulted at 3600 and 60 respectively. You could try changing them.
I do think that you have a larger issue here though. If it's as slow to connect as you mentioned and you are hitting timeouts it may be time to look at your environment. Without knowing anything about what setup you have it's difficult to make suggestions other than the obvious.

Your advice was very helpful.
Thanks a lot!
