SP4 on 2005 Standars edtition (32 bits)

    Hi,

    I am doing a fresh installation and I would like to know if I need to apply SP1 to SP3 before applying SP4?

    All service packs for microsoft products are cumulative - you only need to install the latest one.

    That said...Isn't SP4 still in CTP? I wouldn't use that until it's at least finalized.

    This is in a dev/test environment. So SP4 should be okay.

    A dev environment...with real live development going on = I wouldn't be using a CTP.

    CTP = "Community Technology Preview", preview meaning "find us some more bugs to fix before we go live with it" 😀

    I am trying to find the steps to rollback form SP4 to SP3 if needed. Is there a way to do that or we need to uninstall SQL2005 and reinstall the whole things?

    And a backup restored to another server with checkdb run to make sure it's good.

    if VM, then backup the vm so you have an easy rollback.

    At this point I hope you already retested the application(s). If not then you skipped 1 too many steps.

    Since I don't know .... what does 'RTM' stand for?

    I haven't seen much about SP4 being available for general use. Is there a reason it isn't being widely "advertised"?

    Our system administrator came to me a week or so ago and said that the update had been downloaded and automatically applied in our test environment. I was caught off guard. What is the real status of SP4 for SQL Server 2005 Std. Edition 64 bit?

    Release To Manufacturing--means the product is finished and ready to be pressed onto CDs (or downloaded, in the case of a service pack).

    I'm not so sure that's true for SQL Server 2005. IIRC, you have to install SP1 before any of the other SP's. Not sure though. Maybe I'm thinking of the SP's for Windows XP.

    thats not required Jeff, you can go straight to the latest service pack.
