Blog at SQLCENTRAL

  • To All,

I am rather new to Blogging and I have had a BLOG setup at SQLServerCentral. I have asked for clarification a couple of time with no responce but I can not figure out how to post a blog. I have downloaded Liver writer and it seems easy enough to use but I can not figure out the URL settings I should be using. Any help would be great.

  • Click the blogs link on the left. Once the page refreshes, you can click control panel on the right hand side of the screen (under the label (My Profile). Once the page finishes loading you should have a list of items to manage your blog. One of those items is to add a new post.

  • I actually tried that first and I managed to add an entry and give it a title but I have tried it on several different machines and I can not click in or type in the body of the blog. No cursor ever apears and typing does nothing in the body. It was recommended during Blog setup that I use live writer but no details were given for a URL to connect too.

  • So there's a control for the body, and you might be blocking it. I think it doesn't work in Chrome, but it does work in IE/Firefox, if you can download it.

In terms of Live Writer. The URL is your blog home page. The user/pwd is your SQL Server login, though you need to change the blog password first to match. We use a random one to integrate with the Community Server blogs. You can change that here http://www.sqlservercentral.com/blogs/controlpanel/default.aspx

  • I don't mean to be dense but I have looked at every page on the control panel and I do not see an option to change a password anywhere. I am using Windows 7 with IE 8 and I can not type in the body at all. I have also tried it on a XP machine with IE7 and just for laughs I tried it on a 200 machine but I received the same result everytime. I can click on the message line but not the body. I have also tried this on two different networks to eliminate a network problem.

That is when I tried to use live writer and I figured it probably was the Homepage URL so that is good but I could not connect. I have not changed my password but I can not find that option.

  • I would bet it's a security setting that's blocking the control then. I had that on one machine a couple years ago and had to add a security exception.

  • Sweet I will keep toying with it then.
