Use of PerfMon

  • Hi

What is the use of Perfmon? I am using Vista OS and i have Installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Developer Edition on Windows NT 6.0 (Build 6001: Service Pack 1) .

I need to find the memory usage for paticular process and other things

I could not found any thing like

SQLServer:Buffer Manager – Buffer cache hit ratio

SQLServer:Buffer Manager – Page life expectancy

    SQLServer:General Statistics – User Connections

SQLServer:Memory Manager – Memory Grants Pending

    only terms like

    database instances

    database Table classes

How to get SQlserver in Permon

With Perfmon how can i get good perfomance

what i need to note in perfmon and what are all the steps i have to take as the solution

    Thanks

  • Your new SQL Server should register itself with perfmon when it's installed.

I'm not sure about your experience level or anything so don't take this the wrong way:

are you pulling down in the 'performance object' pull down?

It should be there, maybe with a different name than "SQL Server:" on the front if you installed a named instance. For example, my desktop has 2005 DE installed on it and I named the instance DE2005. In the Performance Object pull-down I see MSSQL$DE2005: Buffer Manager and then I can select the "buffer cache hit ratio" from the list.
