We have a clustered SQL Instance which has SQL Server 2005 standard edition with SP2 and a security update 3077.
Now, customer wanted BIDS to be installed and we are getting the following errors.
I tried running both Standard edition setup as well as enterprise edition setup
we are seeing the following errors:
Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Build version check:
Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove.
This is very urgent. Immediate help will be extremely appreciated 🙂

I am not able to put it in better words but ‘What's unclear in the error message’?

But How do I overcome this issue now?

(God, please forgive me for this bad suggestion)
Please take a backup of your databases & all dependencies (logins, jobs etc.). Uninstall SQL Server & then install it full. Restore database back. Verify it.
Once verified, apply SP2 as well (not necessarily, immediately).

i'm guessing someone may have installed the full version of Visual Studio, which would supercede the BIDS version...could that be true?
in that case, there's nothing to do...just open visual studio 2008.
when you do File...New project, you should have a Project Type Selector with "Business Intelligence Projects"
