The Data Resolutions

  • Hi Steve,

I wish you and your family as well as everybody on SSC a splendid and blessed 2012. May we all prosper in the New Year. My goal (rather than resolution) is to be much more active on SSC in the new year again and to learn much, much more about SQL Server. I have sort of stagnated this year because of two hip replacements I had and also had to battle to keep depression from my door which unfortunately I did not always succeed in doing that but I am closing this year on a high note and hope to be much more energetic in the new year and live my life in such a way that people will want to be in my company. That unfortunately was not true this year.

  • I hope my career will be turned upside down in the literal sense.

I mean, I'm currently waiting for the decision on my Australian visa application. If successful, next year I'll move Down Under 🙂

  • Still trying to move into iOS development full-time.

I love Siberian Huskies, and I love running, so for 2012 I have set myself a goal of running a Canix event in the UK with a Siberian Husky. I don't have a Husky, so I'm going to see if I can borrow one for the day!

  • Wish you and your family a Happy and Prosperous new year.

  • Happy New Year to all.

2011 was my Mayan year. 2012 healthy and more active. Lots of BI work.

Thanks to SSC and members for so much help and friendship over the years.

  • What would you like to do differently in your career in 2012?

Hmmm.... Learn to cope with MS SQL licensing changes. Speak in a kinder voice, act in a friendlier manner, continue to treat others as I expect to be treated, with respect and honesty. Further my education in .NET and SQL in ways that don't cost exorbitant amounts of money (thank you SQL Server Central!!)

Basically, at this time, I think just being able to hang onto my career and the ability to support my family are paramount. I honestly do not know what I would do if I was laid off or "downsized". I will take a paycut, stop complaining and keep the "proverbial nose to the grindstone".... and hope that come budget time in May I'm still employed and able to read the QOTD.

I hope all at SQL Server Central have a wonderful New Year.

  • Thanks Steve for this venue. I have picked up a lot over the months I have subscribed to SSC and find the articles, quizzes, and contributing responsive very valuable. Thanks to a co-worker who shared and tuned me in. Happy New Years to the SSC Crew and all subscribers; hope that 2012 is flourishing in grace & goodness. 🙂

Adding...my 2012 New Years resolution is to gobble up more knowledge.

  • After an intensely busy 2011, in which I put in LONG hours for months, I want to regain some life balance. I haven't spent any time on my favorite activities for the past two years! So it's time to sign up for some hobby-related classes as a way to commit some of my time to personal interests.

  • Happy New Year to you all!

My resolution is to do less hands-on work and more coaching of the junior members of the team. And walk my dog more often, weather permitting.

  • I have a list full of things I have been planning on doing such as articles, blogs, basement and BI certification. I plan on knocking some of those things off the list.

  • I had a full head of steam going early last year in my self-training for the MCM, blogs, got a few articles up here, etc... and realized I just tried to chew too much.

I'm way behind and the MCM is just not a reasonable goal for me *this year*. Maybe 2014 or so. Right now what I need to do is get my blog up and running. I keep meaning to build things into the backlog and then something comes up... like a good game of AI War or my buddies logging into CoD. I'd like to finish a few 'soft' articles I have half-written and then write up a few technical ones as well. I want to try to get to the SQL PASS event this year.

That seems... more reasonable to me. With my current contract getting a hair rocky we'll see how things fall out but I'd expected 3 months of downtime last year and got nothing, so that dented some of my expectations. This time I'll plan for staying working almost the entire year, and then fill in the blanks with the extras.

  • Professionally, I've had a really good 2011, and wouldn't mind just doing more of the same.

Personally, I've had a totally rockin' year in all kinds of respects, and more of the same would be beyond cool (and is expected).
