That's going to vary a lot depending upon each person's environment. If this is homework or job interview, do some research.
If you have a specific question, then it is more likely to get answered.

Basically, you set up monitoring to collect information about the system. Based on that information you might set up alerts, emails, etc., in order to proactively respond to situations on the system.
This sounds like an interview question.
