Dear experts,
I have an application database coming in house that requires SQL 2005 Enterprise, bu all of my instances on the DB server are Standard Edition. Does anyone know, or point me to a KB article, if the two editions can coexist on the same machine? That is, if I were to upgrade/install 1 instance to enterprose edition, what kind of problems should I expect to have or is it recommended NOT to do it?
I patiently await and appreciate any help on this!
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for the quick and positive response! That is what I was thinking, but wanted to be sure. Now, to help my boss be a little more sure, you would happen to know of an Knowledge Base article or something from MS that would state that, do you? I have looked and not found anything that really matches what I'm trying to do.
Thanks Again!!
Dave

Just an odd question, why would you do this?
If you're licensing by processors, like most do, and you're sharing space on the same system, you most likely have licensed the box for enterprise. What are you hoping to achieve by running standard and enterprise on the same box when you can run two enterprise instances for the same price?

Yes, we have just upgraded our processor licenses for enterprise and right now I only need one instance of enterprise for this new database... I just don't want to upgrade all the instances in one night or weekend. At some point in the near future, all the instances will be upgraded, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to run into a problem having the mixed editions on one box. 🙂

Ah! That makes perfect sense to me. Thanks for the feedback.
