When I try to connect to SQL Server 2008 R2 ,got the below error message.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
Can anyone suggest me solution to this?

You're not using the right protocol or a protocol is not enabled on the server is my first thought? Or, maybe you've got the server name wrong? Maybe the name was an alias on another machine? Those are the first things that come to mind.

Turn off the firewall on the server.

I have exactly the same problem trying to install a instance for ACT 7 to run on.
I have 3 separate instances on this 2008 server running fine but cannot get the instance installed which has to be under a specific instance name ACT7
Any ideas would be great
