I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition installed on my home PC. (A 64-bit Vista machine.) It has experienced some serious problems, which I won't go into now, but I'm going to have to reinstall the OS.
After I reinstall Vista I want to try and recover the databases that I had on it. I did have some SQL jobs which backed them up. I hope I can find the .bak files intact and use them, but if I can't is it possible, once I've got SQL Server reinstalled, to just attach to the .MDF files? I'm not sure what happened to my PC, but whatever it was, it was sudden. I cannot be certain that SQL had a chance to properly shut down before all of this stuff happened.

Maybe.

Restoring from backup is the first prize if the mdf won't attach cleanly.
